ISO 9002: The International standard of performance

The standard represents a certificate of international recognition that provides a written assurance that a particular company does follow the set guidelines and direction that has been set out by the International Standardization Organization, and is in line with the standard accordingly.

The ISO 9002 is a standard targeting industry and was formulated by the International Organization for Standardization. The main title for it is “A model for quality assurance in the production, installation and service. “Though the standard has changed with review over time, its replacement standard still holds the same exact content with a few additional improvements of a section or two that focus on new products.

Significance

The ISO 9002 did focus on the creation and maintenance of a system detailed in quality-management. The details of the standard focus on more than twenty sections regarding managerial responsibility and also providing a clear cut definition of the policy it has adopted on quality and the statistical techniques which will detail out the procedures to be put in operation. The standard requires businesses to incorporate a standard language in their documentation practices, develop tracking systems and ensure that it is documented that these practices are considered. Likewise an independent audit by establishment.

The published standards are voluntary with the significant aim is to improve on the performance of the company.

To get certification

The International Organization for Standardization comes up with standards, but does not provide certification. It is usually issued by third parties. When selecting, choose a body that follows ISO 17021:2001, that involves itself in certifying and audit management systems.

Review of the standards

Some three standards which are ISO 9001, ISO 9003 and the ISO 9002 merged to form the ISO 9001 during a review of the standards in the year 2000. It became ISO 9001:2000 and eventually turned into ISO 9001:2008.
